This Monday China started one of the strictest confinements to deal with the growing outbreak of COVID-19 in China’s financial capital “Shanghai”, after two years of a similar lockdown like the one in the city of Wuhan, where the virus was first detected at the end of 2019.
According to the government’s announcements, this lockdown is described as the most rigorous of all, which will be carried out in two phases across the city of Shanghai under a long-term zero-tolerance approach as a prevention strategy. Following the announcement, residents reported panic buying and empty shelves on social media on Sunday.
