More and more vacancies are becoming available for medical physicists in cities such as Calgary due to an exodus of qualified oncology specialty and care staff, compromising the ability to continue providing treatment at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. 

The reasons for the resignation of several medical physicists is due to the disproportion between workload and salary and has been described as a devastating loss, as these types of staff ensure the safety and smooth operation of the radiotherapy machines for cancer treatment.
